April update
Hi everyone!
the past few weeks have been busy and full of memory making!

To start off the Easter celebrations, Christy had her students from last year over for an Easter party. We had a great time making cookies, decorating eggs, reading the Easter story, and watching a movie.

To continue the celebration of Spring and Easter, in honor of Christy's sister's homegoing, to make memories because Christy is leaving, and to celebrate sisterhood, Christy, Lisa, Ange, and I went to have our photos taken at a Chinese photography studio. They did our hair and makeup and dressed us up in traditional clothing and made us pose in some pretty funny shots. It was great fun with the girls! I hope you enjoy some of the candids we snuck in between shots!

The Easter celebrations continued with the annual Good Friday picnic at ZhongShan Park. It was a great time of enjoying time with one another, playing frisbee (teaching some chinese men how to play), soccer, and enjoying the cherry blossoms.
After the picnic, we continued the sisterhood weekend by going out to eat at the Crowne Plaza! While there, we met up with one of our kindergarteners Mahiro. We were so impressed with her and her sister. Not only could they speak in their home language (japanese), but also English, korean, and Chinese! It was so interesting to talk with them and hear them switching languages according to who they were speaking to.

The easter celebrations continued with an early morning hike to see the sunrise. Christy and I set out from our apartment at 3:45 AM to hike FuShan. We managed to make it up to the top by moonlight without getting lost... and in plenty of time to see a sunrise... what we ended up seeing was the fog!we read a few Psalms (98-100) and then decided that it was a little cold and began our hike down... As you can see, the view gradually improved as we made our way down the mountain... maybe next year I will get to see the sunrise!

School News....
Dad's to Lunch
This week was especially busy...Every year the high school students go on various spring trips around china, which means the elementary gets the school to OURSELVES!!! On Thursday we had our Dad's to Lunch. The weather held off until after the dads had left. My students had a great time eating lunch, flying kites, and playing with chinese yo-yos with their fathers:)
On an interesting sidenote... I was asked to bring one of my former students home with me for the summer. At first I thought I misunderstood, when I said that I wasn't able to, the father asked me if I could take her for 2-3 wks... This was a first for me! The father wanted to give his daughter an opportunity in the states and time to practice her english...

Spring trip to LaoShan
This year, I hiked with my students to the top of LaoShan! It was beautiful, but tiring! I didn't think that some of them were going to make it! Actually, one didn't- he wanted to stop 15 minutes into the hike... he made it to the first resting point and quit! The rest of us continued to the top! My students were quite tired on the bus ride home! I think they all fell asleep on the way back! :)

I am currently home with no voice and a cold, so I missed the announcement, but a friend skyped me and said it looks like our school will be signing a contract in a few hours!!!!!!! PTL! Thanks to everyone who has been lifting this up. I will send more news when I know more!

Babysitting the Eckels...
This past weekend we were priveleged to watch one of our team members children for the weekend. We had a great time watching movies, going to the park, making brownies, cleaning the turtle's aquarium, feeding our fish, yet to be named... etc!

Highlight of the week
Yesterday I received a letter from one of my students in Houlton! Thank you, James, for the flag and letter! It made me very happy! I went to Wal*Mart this week and took a picture for you!

Upcoming...
Next month I will be going to Tokyo with Christy and Lisa to visit christy's aunt and uncle and also to see some of Japan! I am looking forward to eating my favorite food- sushi, and seeing the cherry blossoms, possibly Mt. Fuji, and Kyoto!
Please continue to lift up next year for me. I am still not sure who i will be living with. I am hoping to stay in my current apartment. I also registered to begin getting my masters of education through indiana wesleyan this week! Please lift up wisdom as to who to live with and other future decisions that need to be made...

School-
The school year is coming to an end. lift up that I will finish well. There are a lot of things I want to accomplish with my students and cover before my time with them is over. I survived my observation days! (w/out any Pepto! Tammi, you would be sooo proud!)
Thanks for lifting me up! I miss you all and look forward to seeing many of you this summer!
Love,
Erica
